CREATIVITY CONCERT
Creativity Concert is an exhibition/entertainment nite, where young people are provided with a platform to showcase thair ability, talents, skills etc. through music, arts, drama, poetry, dance, comedy, grafiti writing etc.
DEBATE TO ACTION
Debate to Action is a British Council/World Bank Project that is focused on building the capacity of youth organizations on the Millennium Development Goals. Currently over 80 youth organizations and 160 youth leaders are being trained each year on the Millenium Development Goals,(MDGs) and the National Economic Empowerment Development Strategies (NEEDS). Youth Action Initiatives was selected in 2006 to participate in the project.The project currently runs in four Nigerian states ( Kano, Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt), Ghana, Ethiopia and the UK with Kenya, Tanzania Uganda and Sudan joining in next year. The organization is currently engaging 3 major extension projects of DTA, these projects are:
- The Neem Tree Program (Goal 3)
- Basic Literacy Program (Goal 2)
- Seminars and Lectures at tertiary institutions (All GOals)
- In - School Sensitization
THE "NEEM TREE"
The Neem Tree project focuses on goal 3 of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGS) through a provision of a training programme where about 30 women are trained each week with over 300 trained thus far on the processes involved in extracting oil from the neem seed as well as how they can be marketed.
IN SCHOOL TRAINING
To reach young people between the ages of 13-19 with information on HIV/AIDS prevention , MDGS and other development issues can be challenging but what has proved very successful over the years in meeting them at their schools (secondary and Primary). Issues usually looked at/discussed include:
- HIV/AIDS
- Gender
- Drug Abuse
- Goal Setting and Decision Making
- Values and Social resposibility etc.
COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION AND ENGAGEMENT:
Community Mobilization activities have assisted in reaching individuals at the grassroots,build their capacityand engage them in intervention area in their community. Information Resourses and Network Services (IRNS), currently run a community mobilization and engagement project with PATHS and as a partner organization, we have benefitted from the experience of working at the grass roots. Youth Action Initiatives was consulted recently to do a community engagement training in Hausa language at 6 local governments in Kano.
